This year I got to share a special flight with my daughter as she took the controls of the very same Navajo I flew as a fledgling commercial pilot.
Not only was I extremely proud of her, but I think that it is important we all reach out and invite the next generation into the world of flying. More and more, flying is losing its magical appeal and kids are deciding against it simply because of the lack of information or exposure.
Let’s reignite the passion for aviation in the hearts of the next generation, and show them what a truly incredible career it can be.
As I said in the video, a big shoutout to Dave Babiak at DB Air for giving me my first chance at spreading my own wings, teaching me and mentoring me as well as countless other pilots who have worked for him. You have shaped our careers in some way or another.
If today you find yourself in a great place in your career, I truly encourage you to look back and think of all the people who’ve helped you get there. Our successes are all built on the shoulders of other pilots and professionals who have vouched for us, trusted us, and taught us.
This Christmas season, what is one way you can give back to the flying community?
Will you do your part to impact the next generation?
We all have a part to play in the world of aviation. We owe it to those after us to do our best to make this a better and better place, not only for our sake but theirs and that of our stakeholders as a better workplace also means safer skies!
